Frequently Asked Questions

How is Duckpins different than other online estate planning services?

Duckpins is the most comprehensive end to end e-will and life document product to produce, execute, manage, securely save and share the most important documents that every adult should have. Duckpins is the only company that focused on e-wills.  All Duckpins created documents are easy to create and update, and are state-specific, vetted and approved by lawyers in the state.  Documents are automatically stored in our secure vault and easily shareable.

What types of documents can I create using Duckpins?

Duckpins allows you to create the legal documents every adult should have including Powers of Attorney (Finance and HealthCare), HIPAA Authorization (access to medical records), Advanced Healthcare Directives (Living Wills), Wills, and Trusts (coming soon). Our guided process is designed to help you create legally binding documents quickly and easily.

How does Duckpins ensure the legal validity of my documents?

Certain states have introduced legislation allowing residents to create legally binding wills and other estate documents electronically, including their execution. We partner with licensed attorneys in each state to ensure our documents meet state requirements, and tailor your documents to your state's requirements and your personal circumstances. We partner with a third party digital notary to handle signing, witnessing and notarizing your documents electronically and remotely, again in accordance with each state's requirements.

Is my information secure? How does Duckpins protect my privacy?

Duckpins employs robust security measures to protect your personal information and documents, and all of your documents are stored in your personal Duckpins Vault. These measures include encryption, access controls, and regular security audits. Click the links to read more about our security and privacy policies.

How long does it take to create and finalize a document?

Duckpins is designed to streamline the process of creating your life's documents, making it efficient and convenient. It typically takes 45-60 minutes to create and execute all of your documents and they can be updated and accessed at any time. If you don’t have that long, you can do them one at a time - Duckpins will save your progress for you, and you can keep going when you’re ready!

Do I need a lawyer for these documents?

A lawyer is not required to create legally binding documents.  During our guided process, if you have a unique situation where a lawyer should be consulted, we'll let you know - and of course, you can always share your Duckpins documents with your lawyer for a second opinion, or reach out to Duckpins with any questions.

How does the notarization process work?

After creating your documents, you will be connected to our online notary partner who will notarize and witness you signing your document.  The entire process takes around 15 minutes and is included in our pricing.  The best part? You don't need to leave your home!

Can I access my documents at any time?

Yes, you can access your documents at any time in your Duckpins Vault.

What happens if I want to remove access for somebody who I previously granted access?

When you revoke someone's access, they will no longer be able to view or edit your documents. You can change the access rights to your documents at any time.

Do the people I give access to my documents have to create and pay for an account?

People granted access to your documents or your vault can access a free version of the Duckpins Vault. Creating an account and viewing shared documents is free. If they decide to follow your example and get their ducks in a row using Duckpins, then they would need to a document and storage package. You can download and share documents outside the Vault as well.
